The access network is maintained by thousands of Openreach field engineers working throughout the UK every day and automated test equipment routinely tests access network lines generating millions of test results daily. These test results are used to make decisions about assigning engineers to faults and guiding them where to go. If the test result data is not accurate engineer time can be wasted.
With the help of Cloudera and Datameer, Openreach was able to improve the quality of test result data by joining test results with inventory to present the tests in context. This revealed where test equipment was misconfigured or failing, allowing the business to focus on fixing the root cause issues. The result is a programme of proactive maintenance that has reduced wasted field engineer time and improved repair performance.
