Project Rhino: Enhancing Data Protection for Hadoop

Thursday, January 29th, 2015  •  10am – 11am Pacific Time

Since its creation, Hadoop has extended into many new industries and use cases, all looking for a flexible, scalable way to store, process, and analyze big data. With more mission-critical deployments, Hadoop security has become a growing focus. Project Rhino is a community initiative started by Intel to develop a comprehensive security framework for data protection in Hadoop. Cloudera and Intel have worked closely on many of the key objectives, with the help of other key players in the community.

With the release of CDH 5.3, Cloudera announced the general availability of transparent encryption for HDFS, as well as HDFS integration with Apache Sentry (the open source standard for unified authorization for Hadoop) - both signify impressive progress for Project Rhino.

During this webinar, Sam Heywood, Director of Product Management for Security at Cloudera, and Ritu Kama, Director of Product Management at Intel, will discuss:

  • The history of Project Rhino and its importance
  • The progress that’s been made so far (including a deep dive into the new security features announced with CDH 5.3), and
  • What’s next for Hadoop security

This will be a technical webinar and feature a live Q&A.
